India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 3.82%

India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & GasFast Moving Consumer Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 3.82%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 3.62%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. , which rose 13.56% or 37.25 points to trade at 312.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Britannia Industries Ltd. added 8.63% or 213.45 points to end at 2687.20 and GAIL Ltd. was up 8.12% or 5.75 points to 76.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. , which fell 15.14% or 62.60 points to trade at 350.80 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd. declined 10.44% or 2.60 points to end at 22.30 and Eicher Motors Ltd.  was down 2.70% or 360.10 points to 12973.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd. which rose 7.84% to 172.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. which was up 7.76% to settle at 1112.45 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. which gained 7.64% to close at 68.30.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. which was down 14.68% to 351.15 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. which lost 1.23% to settle at 4287.75 and Bajaj Finance Ltd. which was down 1.17% to 2216.05 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1151 to 365 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1458 rose and 721 declined, while 145 ended unchanged.

Shares in Eicher Motors Ltd. fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.70% or 360.10 to 12973.00. Shares in Bajaj Finance Ltd. fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.17% or 26.20 to 2216.05.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 10.41% to 64.4075.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.94% or 31.80 to $1611.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 7.12% or 1.43 to hit $21.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.90% or 1.03 to trade at $27.45 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.15% to 75.502, while EUR/INR fell 0.65% to 82.7510.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.59% at 99.865.
