Obama Reflects on Life After the White House and Strengthening Relationship with Michelle Obama

Former President Barack Obama recently opened up about his post-presidency life, revealing how his time in the White House impacted his personal relationships, particularly with his wife, Michelle Obama. During a discussion at an event hosted by Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, Obama humorously confessed that after eight years in office, he found himself in a “deep deficit” with Michelle.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” Obama said, acknowledging the sacrifices that often accompany public service. However, he added that since leaving office in 2017, he has been making a concerted effort to “dig himself out of that hole” by spending more quality time with his wife and engaging in fun activities together.

Reflecting on their marriage, Obama noted that the transition out of the White House has allowed for more meaningful moments with Michelle. “It sure helps to be out of the White House and to have a little more time with her,” Obama remarked, emphasizing the importance of family time after years of demanding schedules.

In addition to his personal life, Obama has been dedicated to his work with the Obama Foundation, which focuses on empowering individuals and communities around the world. He is also continuing to work on the second volume of his memoirs, following the success of the first book, A Promised Land. Although he jokingly referred to writing as “50 term papers,” Obama expressed his hope of completing the memoirs soon.

Through these personal and professional efforts, Obama is embracing life beyond politics, prioritizing both his relationship with Michelle and his ongoing philanthropic endeavors.
