Asia Cup 2025: Wasim Akram Criticizes Haris Rauf After India Beats Pakistan

India won their 9th Asia Cup title after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final. While the Indian team celebrated, cricket legend Wasim Akram openly criticized Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf, pointing to his expensive bowling and limited experience in red-ball cricket.

India Dominates Asia Cup Final

India once again showcased their dominance over Pakistan, winning the final by five wickets at a high-stakes match. Despite Pakistan showing competitive moments, Haris Rauf’s costly overs played a key role in India’s triumph.

Wasim Akram’s Strong Criticism

On Sony Sports Network, Akram did not hold back, calling Rauf a “run machine” against India and emphasizing his lack of long-format experience.

“Pakistan captain made several mistakes in bowling changes. Haris Rauf went for 15 runs. He does not play red-ball cricket and has avoided Test cricket. At least he should play four or five first-class games,” said Akram.

Rauf ended with figures of 0/50 in four overs, which proved costly for Pakistan at a critical stage.

Critical Overs That Decided the Match

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha trusted Rauf with the 15th over, when India needed 64 runs from six overs. Instead of containing runs, Rauf conceded 17 runs, allowing India to gain momentum.

Even in the 18th over, Rauf bowled well initially but gave away a six on the last ball, enabling India to secure the win in the final overs.

Lack of Red-Ball Cricket Impact

Akram highlighted that Rauf’s focus on T20 and franchise cricket has limited his ability to handle pressure.

“Not playing red-ball cricket affects his temperament. Pakistan should include clauses requiring players to participate in first-class matches to be eligible for T20Is,” Akram said.

Growing Pressure on Haris Rauf

Rauf’s performance in the Asia Cup final has drawn sharp criticism from fans and experts in Pakistan. Without exposure to long-format cricket, pacers struggle in high-pressure matches, raising questions about Pakistan’s pace bowling strategy.

As India celebrates their Asia Cup 2025 victory, Pakistan faces the urgent task of strengthening their bowling lineup for future tournaments.
